Driving on Sunshine in the Sunshine State

Last week we hit the road in sunny South Florida and hosted our first series of ride and drive events! Floridians were able to  take a spin in an electric vehicle (EV) at three Whole Foods Market stores in West Palm Beach, Pompano Beach, and North Miami. Attendees had a great time test driving two Tesla Model 3 sedans, a Tesla Model X crossover, and a Chevrolet Bolt hatchback. For these events, SACE partnered with Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) — the Sunshine State’s largest utility company — with EV experts on hand to answer questions and demonstrate all of the vehicles’ features.

Why electric vehicle test drives?
As you can see, attendees found these electric vehicle options to be tons of fun to drive, but the benefits extend far beyond the exceptional driving experience. Not only are EVs key to reducing carbon emissions that cause climate change, they also protect public health, reduce the need for offshore drilling, and save drivers money! EVs are rapidly becoming more affordable, more practical, and more popular, but unfortunately there are still many misconceptions about them. That’s why the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy will be touring the Sunshine State to educate the public about EVs through our new Driving on Sunshine electric vehicle roadshow

There are many more events to come! Our official launch event of the Driving on Sunshine electric vehicle roadshow will be held on July 20 as part of the 2019 e4 Life: Green Health & Wellness Expo at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium in partnership with the West Palm Beach Mayor’s Office of Sustainability. The expo features fun and educational activities for the entire family, and we’ll be there offering EV test drives and answering all your questions about driving electric. You can sign up to attend this kick-off event at DrivingOnSunshine.org. To hear about the latest EV events in your area, be sure to join our Electrify the South mailing list. Stay tuned for updates, and please consider chipping in to help us fund our efforts to Electrify the South!
