The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy’s (SACE) “Clean Energy Gulf Challenge” Finalist Webinar Series begins today.  SACE, along with a panel of expert reviewers, have chosen three Clean Energy Gulf Challenge finalists to present their ideas to the public via lunchtime webinars on July 6th, 7th and 8th.   Beginning on July 9th, the public will have an opportunity to vote for the plan that they feel best allows our nation to get out of the ‘Gulfs.’ The winner of the $10,000 prize will be announced next week.

On May 13, 2010 SACE issued this “Gulf Challenge” to the nation’s brightest minds to find a path offsetting the roughly 20% of oil that we currently consume from the Gulf of Mexico and import from hostile nations in the Persian Gulf.  The Clean Energy Gulf Challenge has generated interest from academic institutions, non-governmental agencies, private companies and citizens.  The plans we received specify a multitude of ways that America can end our dependence on ‘Gulf’ oil, including increased use of electric vehicles, biofuels, fuel efficiency and various policy recommendations.

“These plans demonstrate that within a very short time frame, our nation can effectively change the way we produce and consume energy.  The policies and technologies necessary to pave the path to our clean energy future are right at our fingertips” – Dr. Stephen Smith, Executive Director of SACE

Over the next three days we will be presenting the finalists of this $10,000 contest, and you get to decide the winner!  Please join SACE and our finalists for these three exciting webinars.
